May 2021

As one of Nunavut’s leading development / construction companies, NCC has been a stronger supporter of Skills Canada Nunavut. Skills Canada Nunavut is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to assist Nunavut youth in pursuing career opportunities in skilled trades and technologies. Skills Canada Nunavut partners with the territorial and federal governments, schools and community organizations, local businesses and industry professionals and educators in order to promote various available opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies. Through a number of different events, workshops and programs that provide hands-on experiences for Nunavut youth, the organization is helping to develop a skilled workforce in Nunavut.

Skills Canada Nunavut hosts an annual Territorial Skills Competition which brings together youth from many communities in Nunavut, competing in a wide range of skilled trades and technology specialties. The 2021 Territorial Skills Competition was held virtually at the end of April 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Despite the challenges due to the virtual platform, the competition went well, with many talented youth from throughout the territory showcasing their skills and proficiencies in a variety of fields.

Starting with the 2021 Territorial Skills Competition, NCC will sponsor an annual award to the highest scoring competitor in each of the three regions of Nunavut. Each winner receives a $1,000 award and a plaque. NCC is proud to announce the winners for the 2021 Territorial Skills Competition:
