NCC Development Completes the Nunavut Arctic College Residence Deep Energy Retrofit Project

December 2021

NCC Development has recently completed work on the Nunavut Arctic College Residence Deep Energy Retrofit Project. The building, which is owned by Qikiqtaaluk Properties Inc. (“QPI”), houses a student residence for the Nunavut Arctic College (“NAC”) and is located in the downtown core of Iqaluit. Prior to being acquired by QPI, the building was operated as a hotel facility. NCC Development was hired as general contractor for a deep energy retrofit of the building to make it more energy efficient. Work completed by NCC Development and its subcontractors included:

  • Reinsulating the roof with thicker and higher efficiency insulation
  • Installing a new Soprema roofing system
  • Removing existing windows and installing new high-efficiency windows
  • Installing thicker and higher efficiency insulation on exterior-facing walls
  • Installing new exterior cladding
  • Installing 3 new heat rate variability units
  • Upgrading all interior and exterior lighting to LED
Fitted with new, energy efficient technology and materials, the building will serve as model/benchmark in the City for future deep energy retrofit projects.
