National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

September 30, 2021

As a proud Inuit-owned organization, NCC Investment Group observed the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, allowing our employees to reflect on the children and families impacted by the residential school system, including many Nunavummiut.

Many NCC employees participated in an event organized by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association in the territorial capital of Iqaluit, joining 1,000 individuals wearing orange who walked from the Igluvut Building to Iqaluit Square. The walk was in commemoration of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis children who were taken from their families and communities and placed in residential schools throughout the country, forced to abandon their cultural heritage, traditions and languages. Sadly, many of these children did not make it home to their families.

As an organization with a focus on developing Inuit workforce capacity and providing Inuit with opportunities for meaningful employment and careers, professional development and mentorship, NCC will continue to play its role in national reconciliation for the families and communities impacted by the residential school system.
